I like food and one of my favourites is Italian and by Italian I mean fresh pasta, cured meats and hearty salads NOT pizza! Pizza is delicious at the best of times but for me it's fast food and not really anything special. Living in London I'm fortunate to be surrounded by many great independent restaurants which for me always win over the chains. However there is one Italian (non pizza) chain I love and it is Carluccios.
There is a Carluccios in Putney by the Thames and it's a lovely place to have lunch as long as you can ignore all the screaming babies!! They do a pretty good meal deal too; a starter and main for just under a tenner. So not only do you get a delicious lunch but you don't have to break the bank doing it.
Another thing I love about Carluccios is their little Italian supermarket inside the restaurant. It sells all sorts of Italian breads, oils, meats, salads, sweets, sauces and pastas. They also sell the most adorable chocolate brownies shaped as teddy bears.
Last time I went I enjoyed the tomato and rocket bruschetta for starter and the ricotta and spinach ravioli for main. Because I've been so many times I've sampled a lot of the menu including the focaccia, antipasto di verdure, peperoni e caprino (goats cheese salad), linguine al frutti di mare (seafood linguine), lasagna tradizionale, tortelloni di cervo (venison tortellini) and milanese di pollo (chicken in breadcrumbs) to name but a few. They also do great specials such as risotto and I've honestly never had a bad meal there.

oh MYYY god!! Hannah. This post may be the death of me - I am craving good food so much, and Italian would be incredible! Sadly its just student food for me atm. bah.
ReplyDeleteso glad you had a delicious meal there, i'mma have to persuade mama to treat me sometime! x
I love Carluccions - I always get the antipasti starter to share which is just amazing. Your food pictures are making me hungry! x
ReplyDeletemmm i love carluccios! i always spend so much money in the shop part getting all excited over the tasty treats! artichokes are always my downfall! x
ReplyDeleteMmm all looks so delicious, I'm sure I would end up spending a small fortune in the supermarket as well! x
ReplyDeleteAmazing, you've inspired me to go to the one in DUblin this weekend. I'll even bring my mum! I've only ever stopped for coffee and to get take away from the deli, so, on your recommendation, I shall give the pasta a go!
ReplyDeleteAlso, i laughed at 'cursed meats' - AMAZING TYPO!! I love it when typo's work out better.
Ohhh Hannah you are a girl after my own heart- i LOVE Carluccios. My favourite branch is the one in Kingston. Love the big wooden benches so that you're on the same table as other people, such a relaxed atmosphere but such gorgeous food. YUM!xx
ReplyDeleteI've neve heard of these but that ood looks fab!
ReplyDeleteX x
Oops. Meant food!
ReplyDeleteI love Italian! With the stupid dairy allergy it does mean I have to miss out on a fair amount of the pasta dishes as they load them with cheese, but there's usually some goats cheese stuff I can have.
ReplyDeleteI'd have to disagree with you about pizza though - I think a properly cooked thin and crispy Italian style pizza is so far removed from the usual claggy takeaway pizzas that I just can't count them as the same thing!
Ooh, this restaurant looks amazing! I love italian food, I studied italian at school and took an elective in it in first year uni and love everything to do with Italy. Your posts always make me want to visit London! I'll need to start writing down all your recommendations for when I do :P xx
ReplyDeleteHey babe!
ReplyDeleteI adore Carluccios, I used to go the one on Westbourne Grove EVERYDAY during my lunch break (shameless I know). These shots are yummy!
Hope all is well ;)
xx
Your blog is so cute!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a real family/children's paradise! I'm not a big fan of the Carluccio 'restaurant' chain - but I do like his cookbooks; and YES, I LOOOOOVE Italian food.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Carluccios, I went a few months ago and it was gorgeous! The deli/shop is definitely the best bit though, I could buy it all!

ReplyDeleteits my second fave behind greek!
Rosie xo
I know that place but I gotta say that I can't help feeling it's a tad too overpriced for me.
ReplyDeleteI've been to their Covent Garden restaurant and I liked it and I am definitely more of a pasta girl rather than pizzas. I wouldn't say it was my favourite Italian chain...I think I am yet to find one to be honest! They've opened one in Birmingham recently (Brindley place for any Brummies reading).
ReplyDeleteall this food looks soo good!!! im drooling :P
