A few pictures from my birthday weekend spent in Berlin. I've been to Berlin once before and fell in love with the city. There is so much to do and see making it the perfect weekend away. Berlin is of course riddled with history which makes it even that more interesting. Of course the war was a terrible time and memorials all over the city including the Holocaust Memorial seen above are a constant reminder of the atrocities that happened but the city does tell an interesting story. We stayed in the east Berlin district Friedrichshain which is probably the Berlin equivalent to Shoreditch. It's full of quirky shops and bars, the streets are covered in graffiti and the occupants are young and carefree. It was the perfect place to stay. We partied hard all weekend but did a fair amount of sight seeing too. We enjoyed local food and danced away to European pop. The Ramones Museum was a little gem and going up the TV Tower despite the enormous queues was worth it for the views. The whole weekend was amazing and I was so blessed getting to spend my 25th birthday with some of my best friends.
One of the most appealing things about Berlin is the price, it's cheap for a capital city. We rented an enormous apartment for an extremely moderate price. It was lush and the extra space meant we could really make ourselves feel like home. We had our own kitchen but ended up eating out most of the time which in itself was a bit of a disaster. FYI German brunch is not a fry up as we were hoping... Anyway, I digress. We stayed in LODGE 7 which is part of LODGE Berlin who own a series of beautiful apartments. I would highly recommend this place and will definitely be staying with them again next time I'm in the city with a group of friends.
